Matt came to filmmaking after spending way too much of his time in darkened movie theaters and in front of the television. He came to journalism much later, and has covered several high-profile criminal and civil trials in Los Angeles, including the Grim Sleeper serial murders and the Blurred Lines copyright case.

He is a graduate of UCLA's Professional Program in Screenwriting and the University of Westminster in London where he was taught by Terry Gilliam regular Tony Grisoni (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Tideland).

Matt currently reports on legal developments in the Midwest for Courthouse News Service, and is a candidate for a Masters in Science in Journalism at Northwestern University.
